OUR SOAP

What makes Salt + Clay soap different?

At Salt + Clay, we have very high standards when it comes to body care. Our products are made from all-natural and environmentally sustainable ingredients. We practice permaculture which means Earth Care, People Care and Fair Share are our guiding principles. It means no palm oil, no mined micas, and no exploitative or destructive farming practices are behind any of our ingredients. Our unique, plantable packaging is made from recycled paper embedded with non invasive, non GMO wildflower seeds. From ingredients through to packaging, our objective is to provide you soap with a minimal footprint.

What exactly is plantable packaging?

Our soaps are wrapped in recycled paper labels that are embedded with a colorful variety of non-invasive wildflower seeds which will grow just about anywhere! For best results, plant in an area that receives partial to full sunlight. Thoroughly moisten and plant in fine soil 1/4 inch deep. Water daily, tend to them with love, and watch them grow! The paper will recycle naturally into the soil as the seedlings grow. The seeds are tested for purity and meet the highest standards of the United States Department of Agriculture. Our wildflower seed paper packaging contains:

Alyssum, Catchfly, Siberian Wallflower, Black-Eyed Susan and Baby Blue Eyes

How and where are Salt + Clay soaps made?

Our soap is lovingly crafted by hand at our studio in Marin County, CA. We make our soaps from scratch, in small batches, using the time tested cold process technique. This is how our ancestors made soap! In fact, archaeologists have found remnants of cold process soap dating as early as 2800 B.C.

Our soaps are made with the highest quality and food grade oils, and free of soy, sulfates, phthalates, parabens, and gluten. Decorative toppings such as dried botanicals, or fragrant plants that we use to infuse oils with, are often grown in our very own organic garden :) We sometimes use sea salt, biodegradable glitters, and responsibly sourced micas as well. Almost all of our soaps are vegan. Exceptions, like an occasional use of locally sourced honey or goats milk in certain soaps, will be clearly noted in the product description for your convenience.

How do I use and store my soap?

We recommend storing your soap in a dark, dry place before use. When you’re ready to use your bar, pair it with a soap dish that drains and allow your bar to dry between uses to help it last longer. We also recommend removing toppings such as crystals, shells, or dried botanicals before using your soap to avoid any potential issues with drains.

It’s best to use our products within 6 months as the color and scent may begin to fade, but the soap will remain functional and get you clean long after that!
